Procedures of Teaching

Preparing my learning guide is the first thing I did. I adapt my cooperating teacher learning guide for two subjects that are EAPP and MEDIALIT learning guide. I follow the pattern from the example Learning Guide.

The next thing I did was preparing my visual aids. I made sure that my visual aids are visible in the eyes of my students. Since my English is not really good, I have to do my best in presenting my topic through visuals.

Next, I made a script. The script contains all the things that say during my teaching demo. Like for examples, I put the tables, chart, rubric, and sample materials.

Next, I submit my learning guide 4 days before my teaching practices.

Then, I teach. I follow the sequence written in my learning guide. My first topic was about Locating the main idea and the evolution from traditional media to new media.

Next, I let them do the activities. Each centre has at least 2-3 activities

Then, Review and closing.

Time Management

and

ORGANIZING ACTIVITY

TIME MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES:

  1. Preparing Learning guide, materials, visual aids, etc beforehand.

  2. Indicate how many minutes for every step taken. eg. Motivation activity (5 minutes)

  3. Prepare plan B, if you ran out your activities you can make another one.

  4. Prepare the activities as many as you can. So you can have many ideas to make students engage in your class.

  5. Stick to the rules. Students should start and stop doing the activity on time.

Classroom Management

Q&A Rules

  • Raise your hand

  • Stand up

  • Ask/Answer

Attention

Signal

  • I made the rules for the students to ask a question and share their ideas. I gave them a gift for appreciation.

  • I also made an attention signal "Can I have your attention, please!" and they will answer "Yes, Ma'am"

  • I usually use the Eliciting Strategy to make students share their thoughts of the lesson.

Summary and Suggestions

It's a wrap. My journey as a student teacher in the Philippines has been very meaningful. After this program, I realized that being a teaching is not easy. You have to prepare many things to make your pupils enjoy and understand your class. Not only taught them the lesson but also taught them the manner and behaviour. You should give the best version of you to get the best version of your pupils.

International exchange program always opens my eyes to the beauty of differences. I am thankful to the SEAMEO to give me this opportunity. My suggestion for the next batch is about the SEAMEO and the Universities coordination regarding to the report and evaluation. The instruction should be clear, therefore there won't a misunderstanding between the University and the participants.

Purpose of the Practicum

The purpose of this practice teaching is to provide the students with an opportunity to apply their pedagogical knowledge and skills in practice. The aim is to enable the student to design, carry out and evaluate the teaching methods of his/her own sector and to cooperate with other parties and students relating to teaching practice. One of the aims is also that the student will be able to understand his/her role in the larger whole of the profession and in the extended operational environment of the school. An important goal is to learn how to develop and advance one’s competence in development. This student exchange offers broad based benefits and outcomes for students keen to embark on this international adventure. Most of these are intertwined and come together to constitute the overarching exchange experience.

Procedures of the Practicum

  • Apply and Submits the requirements to the SEAMEO

  • Interview with the Host University

  • Prepare the Budget

  • Prepare the Passport

  • Buy the Round Trip Flight Tickets

  • Prepare yourself holistically

  • Start your Journey

  • Fulfil 20 hours teaching

  • Do your report blog and submit the link

  • Submit the evaluation form to your coordinator.

Outcomes of the Practicum

EDUCATIONAL

  • International learning and knowledge propel students towards acceptance and understanding of an array of different cultural and community perspectives.

  • Language acquisition is achieved through practical immersion.

  • Awareness and adoption of alternative, multi-faceted approaches to learning.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Enhanced interest in global issues as well as a broader general knowledge.

PERSONAL

  • Self-development and awareness leading to enhanced self-confidence and self-esteem. This is often the most noticeable change in returned exchange students.

  • Maturity and social poise, fuelled by the necessity to confront challenges outside a familiar support network and comfort zone.

  • Integration into another family as well as the development of life-long friendships, fostering an appreciation of home and family.

  • A tremendous sense of accomplishment upon completion encourages students to develop independent opinions, make informed decisions and strive to attain fresh goals.

The Challenges of the Practicum

The topic that I teach is the topic that I got when I was in second-year college. They are English for Academic and Professional Purposes and Media and Information Literacy. I know it is because English in the Philippines is a Second Language, so they no longer need to learn Basic English in Senior High School. I take it as a challenge yet I am grateful that I can recall my memory of the topic that I was taken.
